Sounds of Opava
In 2022, Bludný kámen, in collaboration with Michal Kindernay and Magdaléna Manderlová, launched the website Zvukyopavy.cz, serving as a sound archive of Opava and its surroundings. The public can contribute any field recordings along with specifying the coordinates of the location, the time of recording, and a brief comment.
“These websites document sounds that have occurred and are occurring in Opava and its surroundings. Anyone who intends to record sounds at a specific or arbitrary location in Opava and publish them can contribute to the collection. These sounds can be typical of a certain place and time, but also random or unique sounds.
The administrator of this website places individual sounds on the map of Opava, to which the author of the recording submits them along with accompanying characteristics. These include the time of recording, a title corresponding to a brief description of the recording, GPS coordinates, the name of the author who made the recording, and the name and type of recording device.
The project “Sounds of Opava” was created by the association Bludný kámen as an independent part of the exhibition activity “Sound Currents” by Magdaléna Manderlová and Michal Kindernay at the Galerie Cella in the years 2021 and 2022. This activity was financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the City of Opava, the Norwegian Visual Artists Fund, the Trondheim Municipality, and the Office for Contemporary Art Norway.”
