The Electrics, Jasper Stadhouders & Elio Amberg, Toša, spectral3*
25. 10. 2025, 19h
Jazz Café club Evžen, Beethovenova 179
_______
The Electrics is an unpredictable mix of improvisation, free jazz, and indefinable sounds, often marked by sudden changes in musical direction and multilayered sonic structures. The group of distinctive players from the international scene (who have collaborated with Mats Gustafsson, Otomo Yoshihide, and others) has been active since 2000 and has performed at festivals and clubs across twenty countries in Europe and North America. Axel Dörner – trumpet, slide trumpet; Sture Ericson – saxophones; Joe Williamson – double bass; Raymond Strid – drums.
Jasper Stadhouders plays guitar and bass guitar and has been performing since the age of eight. He is an active member of the international improvisation scene and co-founder of the bands Cactus Truck and Spinifex. He regularly performs in Europe, the USA, and India, and has collaborated with Han Bennink, Paal Nilsen-Love, Ken Vandermark, Jeb Bishop, Marshall Allen, and many others. Swiss saxophonist Elio Amberg explores rhythmic structures, extended saxophone techniques, the organization of atonal melodies, and the space between electronic and acoustic music, often incorporating electronics and tape recorders.
Toša – Michal Wróblewski and Klára Pudláková present their new duo project combining original compositions with spontaneous, unpredictable improvisation. Their music ranges from touching, straightforwardly melodic songs to evocative soundscapes and wild rhythmic outbursts. Together they explore the possibilities of connecting saxophone and double bass, experimenting with the intersections and fusions of diverse musical traditions.
spectral3* is an international trio formed by Max Arsava (Berlin), Miro Tóth (Horná Mariková / Prague), and Martin Režný (Ostrava).

🌿 For the fourth time, together with Magdaléna Manderlová, Michal Kindernay, and the Bludný kámen collective, we return to the environment of the Kozmice Bird Meadows. This long-term project listens to the transformations of the soundscapes of the Opava River and its living floodplains. Floodplain areas—their presence, loss, and gradual disappearance—have become an urgent issue once again after the devastating floods of 2024. The Kozmice meadows, one of the last two floodplain areas of the Opava River, stand here as a fragile memory of water and as testimony to a landscape that can breathe together with the river.
The (Non)festival is preceded by a week-long symposium of artists, during which works are created in close relation to the specific site. This year’s program brings new collaborations. Berlin-based artist Udo Noll will build an autonomous microphone, permanently placed in the meadows for 24-hour listening, monitoring, and collecting bird data. The duo Claudia von Hasselt & Nicolas Wiese will contribute with their long-term artistic research on the Oder River.
The festival itself is conceived as a sequence of interconnected events—from participatory listening exercises to concerts and performances—that link the audience with the place and its soundscape.
The festival was supported by a grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Statutory City of Opava and the Czech-German Future Fund.

MINIMARATHON OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC • #OD2025
⌲ This year, visitors to the Minimarathon can look forward to more than fifteen performances across four stages, each featuring a distinct approach to sound reinforcement – from Manka Lustigová’s ceramic sound system to the Berlin-based BUSS, optimized for sounds of extreme frequencies. The event will also feature Kazuhisa Uchihashi, a pioneer of the peculiar daxophone instrument; compositions for 3D printers presented by Richard Grimm and Patrik Herman; and a work by Gerard Lebik dedicated to the legacy of Phill Niblock, who passed away last year (serving as a tribute to Niblock’s first performance in Ostrava in 2009, held in the original VI Central Hall of the blast furnaces in Vítkovice). The methods of the early pioneers of musique concrète are evoked by the production of Jean-Philippe Gross, who continues the tradition of experimental electronics defined in the 1950s and 1960s by institutions such as the Paris-based Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM), and by Lithuanian sound artist Augustė Vickunaitė, who works with several reel-to-reel tape recorders as both sources and instruments of composition. More straightforward sets will be offered by the Berlin duo Powerstanz and Ursula Sereghy. After the official program, there will be an off-program. As part of the Minimarathon, a remarkable opus Nemiesta by Miroslav Tóth will be performed. At the composer’s request, it will take place in the cryptic underground spaces of a former coal mill, which themselves become one of the interpreters of the sonic situations.
The event is part of the Ostrava Days 2025 festival (https://fb.me/e/310EiXyiI), for which it is also possible to purchase a festival pass.

MOVEMENT — SOUND — SPACE 2024
4th May 2024
Kozmice Bird Meadows, Matiční dům, Opava
PERFORMERS: Peter Cusack, Michal Kindernay, Magdaléna Manderlová, Lucie Páchová, Martin Režný, Tomáš Šenkyřík, Šárka Zahálková
We invite you to the fourth installment of the project by Magdaléna Manderlová and Michal Kindernay, where the artists explore the soundscapes along the Opava River and its surroundings.
As part of the project, two exhibitions took place at Galerie Cella in 2021-22, the publication “Po proudu zvuku” was released, we published the sound online map “Zvuky Opavy” (zvukyopavy.cz), and organized a field excursion “Zvuková citlivost v terénu”. In 2023, Magdaléna and Michal curated the Pohyb – Zvuk – Prostor festival for the first time, which they relocated to Kozmické ptačí louky, and subsequently presented the project together with German partners in Leipzig.
The program’s dramaturgy is conceived as a chain of interconnected events. It takes the form of participatory listening exercises, concerts, and performances. The invited artists have created new works closely related to the given location.

Workshop on why it makes sense to sharpen our senses. Instead of observing with our eyes, we will tune in our ears and give more space to our own hearing. We will listen to the surrounding environment and the materials that shape it. The found material will be delicately transformed into the foundation of cosmic ears. These will later help us perceive the world around us in a slightly different way.
The workshop is open to anyone regardless of age and will take place outdoors, so dress accordingly.
