MINIMARATHON OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC • #OD2025
⌲ This year, visitors to the Minimarathon can look forward to more than fifteen performances across four stages, each featuring a distinct approach to sound reinforcement – from Manka Lustigová’s ceramic sound system to the Berlin-based BUSS, optimized for sounds of extreme frequencies. The event will also feature Kazuhisa Uchihashi, a pioneer of the peculiar daxophone instrument; compositions for 3D printers presented by Richard Grimm and Patrik Herman; and a work by Gerard Lebik dedicated to the legacy of Phill Niblock, who passed away last year (serving as a tribute to Niblock’s first performance in Ostrava in 2009, held in the original VI Central Hall of the blast furnaces in Vítkovice). The methods of the early pioneers of musique concrète are evoked by the production of Jean-Philippe Gross, who continues the tradition of experimental electronics defined in the 1950s and 1960s by institutions such as the Paris-based Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM), and by Lithuanian sound artist Augustė Vickunaitė, who works with several reel-to-reel tape recorders as both sources and instruments of composition. More straightforward sets will be offered by the Berlin duo Powerstanz and Ursula Sereghy. After the official program, there will be an off-program. As part of the Minimarathon, a remarkable opus Nemiesta by Miroslav Tóth will be performed. At the composer’s request, it will take place in the cryptic underground spaces of a former coal mill, which themselves become one of the interpreters of the sonic situations.
The event is part of the Ostrava Days 2025 festival (https://fb.me/e/310EiXyiI), for which it is also possible to purchase a festival pass.
